The latest Ref’s Eye View look at a hockey game comes to us from the Univeristy of Alabama – Huntsville, from their game against the Alaska Nanooks

Pretty cool, eh?

As far as the team goes, they’re pretty amazing as well.  Not so much for their one ice play (this season they’re  1-32-1), but for the fact that they play.   It’s a lot of work to keep up when you’re trying to run an ice hockey team out of Alabama.   Mike Tierney over at the New York Times did an incredible writeup of what it’s like to be a part of University of Alabama Huntsville’s Division I ice hockey team, calling it hockey’s ‘Ultimate Travel Team’.  Give it a read.

Oh, and if you didn’t think a team from Alabama would be taken seriously, they already have two alumni who’ve made it to the NHL.   One is center Jared Ross, who played 13 games for the Flyers from 2008-2010.  The other is promising goaltender Cam Talbot of the New York Rangers.   You can read more about his rise in the ranks from Alabama to the NHL from Adam Herman over at the NY Rangers Blog.
