A little local love for Ohio native Brad Meier from the Star Phoenix:
NHL referee Brad Meier, who grew up in Saskatoon, is headed to the Sochi Olympics.
Meier was one of 14 referees named this week to work the men’s hockey competition at the upcoming Olympic Games. Seven of those 14 referees come out of the NHL.
Meier began his NHL officiating career in 1999-2000.
He’s also worked the 1998 Olympics along with the 1989 and 1998 Memorial Cups and the 1995 world junior championship.
