Being a linesman is rarely a glorious job.   On a good night, nobody notices you.  On a bad night, you blow an offside call.  On a terrible night, you get knocked out trying to break up a fight.  Last Saturday, BCHL Linesman Ryan Dawson had a terrible night.

The Vernon Vipers and Prince George Spruce Kings got a bit chippy after the whistle.  Dawson skated over to break up a fight brewing between the Vipers’ T.J. Dumonceaux and Christian Weidauer of the Spruce Kings.

For his efforts, Dawson was rewarded with a shot to the jaw.   It’s okay though.  He quickly put some ice on it…  or, more accurately, put himself on ice.

Dawson got patched up – the injury required stitches.

Dumonceaux was hit with a game misconduct and a match penalty.
Like NHL referee Mike Leggo said, “You can’t do that.”
