Referee Beau Halkidis will work the 200th regular-season game of his NHL career tonight as the Vegas Golden Knights visit the St. Louis Blues at Enterprise Center. He’ll work alongside referee Eric Furlatt, with linespersons Kilian McNamara and Julien Fournier
Halkidis, 32, reaches the mark in his first season as a full-time NHL referee. The London, Ontario native worked game No. 199 on Tuesday night in Columbus alongside Peter MacDougall, capping a climb that began with his 2019 debut and was spent splitting time between the AHL and the NHL. He has yet to work a Stanley Cup Playoff game but his AHL resume is stacked: ten seasons in the league and four Calder Cup Finals assignments, including three straight Finals right before his promotion
Hockey is in the Halkidis family. His father Bob is a former NHL player, and it was Bob who nudged a reluctant Beau toward officiating after his own playing days ended in 2012. Beau started at Don Koharski’s Officiating School in Hamilton in the summer of 2015, where he earned an invitation to that summer’s NHL Officiating Combine – the first of three consecutive Combines for him. The USA Hockey Officiating Development Program brought him to Minneapolis to referee in the NA3HL, NAHL, and USHL for 2015-16; he then worked the SPHL, ECHL, and AHL as a linesman before switching back to the orange armbands as a referee in those same leagues. The NHL signed him to a minor-league referee contract in the summer of 2018, at age 24.
His NHL debut came on April 1, 2019, in Ottawa with the Senators hosting the Tampa Bay Lightning, alongside referee Steve Kozari and linespersons Brad Kovachik and Libor Suchanek. There’s a full-circle note in that crew: Kozari and Kovachik both retired this past summer, their departures among the openings that created this season’s full-time slots.
Halkidis filled one of them. After 42 NHL games last season wearing #48, he was promoted to full-time for 2026-27 and moved to #22, the number previously worn by Ghislain Hebert. Seven games into the new season, his next one is No. 200.
Congratulations to Beau on 200 games!
