A scary scene early in Montreal as linesperson Ryan Daisy was injured and had to be helped off the ice during Tuesday night’s game between the Buffalo Sabres and Montreal Canadiens at the Bell Centre.

Daisy was hurt 5:28 into the first period after Sabres forward Jiri Kulich went crashing into the official’s leg after a faceoff. Daisy went down hard, his left leg folding underneath him. He remained on the ice as medical personnel came out to attend to him.

Unable to put any weight on his left leg, Daisy was helped off the ice by Canadiens forwards Jake Evans and Owen Beck. He did not return to the game.

The game continued with a three-man crew. Referees Jake Brenk and Pierre Lambert continued with linesperson Tommy Hughes working the lines solo – racking up some extra miles in the process.

There has been no official update on Daisy’s condition.

The injury comes on a milestone night for the Mansfield, Massachusetts native: Daisy made his NHL debut on October 13, 2016, exactly ten years ago Tuesday. He has worked 630 regular-season games and 58 playoff games, including the 2022 Stanley Cup Final.

Scouting the Refs will update this story as more information on Daisy’s condition becomes available.
