Referees Jean Hebert and Trevor Hanson were paired up at the start of Round 2, working ANA/VGK Game 1 and MTL/BUF Game 2.
Hebert worked alongside Furman South in Round 1, handling MIN/DAL Game 1 (MIN W 6-1), OTT/CAR Game 2, PHI/PIT Game 4, and MTL/TBL Game 5. Hebert hasn’t officiated an Avs game since March 8 — coincidentally, against the Wild, a 3-2 SO win for Colorado.
Hanson partnered up with TJ Luxmore at UTA/VGK Game 1, LAK/COL Game 2 (COL 2-1 OT), BOS/BUF Game 4, and MIN/DAL Game 5 (MIN W 4-2).
Lineys Shandor Alphonso and Ryan Gibbons are paired up for the first time in the playoffs, which is a bit odd since they both started Round 2 with different partners — Alphonso with Ryan Daisy (who worked BUF/MTL yesterday with Devin Berg) and Gibbons alongside Trent Knorr (who handled VGK/ANA Game 3 on May 8. We don’t typically see a mid-round change, so we’re keeping an eye out to see if perhaps Knorr may be injured. Alphonso as paired with Julien Fournier in the opening round, while Gibbons skated with Libor Suchanek.

Number in orange/parentheses indicated referee’s rank among active officials.
* Penalty Differential represents the absolute value of the variance of penalty calls by team per game. If Team A takes two more penalties (or two fewer) than Team B, this is a 2. Lower numbers indicate less variance between total penalties in a game – that is, a closer number of calls for both teams.
We’ve also got new rules, new refs, promoted officials, and an updated pronunciation guide for 2025-26.
