We get plenty of questions about penalties around here.  While the rulebook is handy in clearing things up, and NHL officials do an excellent job of explaining calls, we’re going to our resident subject matter expert when it comes to the NHL:  Snoop Dogg.

Let Snoop break it down for you in this throwback series:

“These guys on the ice don’t work at the world’s coldest Foot Locker,” Snoop begins. “They’re the refs.”

Snoop covers tripping, boarding, cross-checking, hooking, and high sticking — “When your stick is above your shoulders… or your stick’s been smoking too much. I’m pretty sure both are against the rules.”

Of course, when you commit those infractions, where do you go? To the penalty box. Let D-O-double-G explain:

The Doggfather also lays it out on icing – prefacing the explanation by calling out that “the refs are like Olympic figure skaters, twirling all around” – and detailing what happens when you shoot the puck all the way down into the ‘Backyard’.

Also on deck: Offside.

We’ll have to wait to get Snoop’s take on goaltender interference…
