The Toronto Maple Leafs scored five goals against the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game One. They nearly had a sixth.
Timothy Liljegren’s shot beat Bolts goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy but was deflected by the stick of Mikhail Sergachev. Referee Brian Pochmara emphatically waved off the goal. Play continued with the Bolts on the power play before a stopped shot was held by the netminder.
The NHL’s Situation Room sounded the horn to indicate a review. After discussing the play with Pochmara and ref Dan O’Rourke, the league stuck with the call on the ice. No goal.
Overhead angles showed that the puck failed to completely cross the line. Good eyes – and good call – by Pochmara.
