Referee Kelly Sutherland was hit by the puck during Saturday’s game between the Ottawa Senators and the Washington Capitals.

Sutherland was in the Capitals zone when a Sens dump-in off the stick of Thomas Chabot caught him in the back.  The veteran referee fell to the ice in obvious pain.  Play continued with the Caps icing the puck moments later.

By the time the whistle sounded, Sudsy was back on his skates.  He declined medical attention and finished the game.

Washington ultimately prevailed in the battle of nation’s capitals, winning 3-2 in overtime.

Officials for Caps/Sens were refs Kelly Sutherland (#11) and Steve Kozari (#40) skating alongside linesmen James Tobias (#61) and Julien Fournier (#56).
