Pittsburgh’s Jason Zucker set up teammate Kasperi Kapanen for his first goal of the season with a pass through the legs of referee Peter MacDougall.

A clearing attempt by Minnesota Wild defenseman Alex Goligoski hit referee Peter MacDougall.  Pittsburgh’s Evan Rodrigues corralled the puck and pushed it along the boards to Zucker, who passed it between MacDougall’s wickets. Kapanen, all alone in the slot, scored to tie the game.

Nice move by Zucker to keep the play going and move the puck around — no, make that through — the official.

Kapanen scored twice more to earn a hat trick, but the Penguins fell short, losing 5-4 to the Wild.

Referees for the game were Peter MacDougall and Justin St. Pierre. Linesmen were Ryan Gibbons and Mark Shewchyk.
