Calgary’s Matthew Tkachuk has drawn 17 penalties this season. Not on this play, though…
Tkachuk was hustling back, keeping pace with Winnipeg’s Mark Scheifele. Tkachuk appeared to use his left hand to interfere with Scheifele before falling to the ice in hopes of drawing a call. None came. Referees Eric Furlatt and Michael Markovic weren’t fooled.
With Tkachuk flat on his back sliding down the slot, the Jets moved in on a 2-on-1, with Scheifele wide open to fire home a pass from Kyle Connor.
It’ll be interesting to see if Tkachuk gets a warning from Hockey Ops for diving. Those incidents aren’t made public until after a first warning. There have been no diving/embellishment fines handed out this season, after two in 2019-20, three in 2018-19, and four in 2017-18.
Perhaps giving up the goal on the play was enough to dissuade him from trying that again.
Nah. Probably not.
Matthew Tkachuk is tied for fourth in the league in drawn penalties, with 17. He trails his brother Brady (25), Edmonton’s Connor McDavid (22), and the Coyotes’ Conor Garland (21).
