San Jose Sharks forward Kurtis Gabriel has been fined $3,017.24 for a pre-game altercation.
As the two teams warmed up prior to Monday night’s game in San Jose, Gabriel went hunting. Skating at center ice, the Sharks winger delivered a cross-check to the back of Los Angeles Kings defenseman Kurtis MacDermid. The two appeared to exchange words before returning to their respective sides of the ice.
Gabriel and MacDermid reconvened midway through the first period, though, dropping the gloves at the 9:09 mark for an old-school style scrap well away from the puck.
A $5,000 fine was also issued to Sharks head coach Bob Boughner, along with a conditional team fine. The Sharks will be fined $25,000 – on top of any subsequent fines – for any “events of similar appropriate behavior” through March 22, 2022.
