NHL Referees and Linesmen for 2020-21 Season

The NHL has released its updated officiating roster for the 2020-21 season.

Apart from last season’s retirements, there are no changes to the officiating lineup at this time.

Referee Dan O’Halloran has hung up the skates, as have linesmen Scott Driscoll, Darren Gibbs, and Brian Murphy.  At this time, no replacements have been named. Nor have any minor league officials been promoted to full time.

One minor shift comes via linesman Trent Knorr. He’s switching numbers from 63 to 74.

With a shortened season, it’s possible the NHL opts to go with a short staff – 33 full-time referees and 31 linesmen. Additionally, with the AHL season delayed, that may mean more availability and greater flexibility when it comes to using the AHL/NHL officials.  Of those part-timers, only referee Dan Kelly has yet to make his NHL debut; he was likely slated to do so prior to the pause of the NHL season in March.

No word yet on how the officials may be aligned with regards to those working north of the border to handle the Canadian division.
