He was prosecuted for a crime he didn’t commit.  Only a last-minute pardon from the league saved him from wrongful imprisonment.

Minnesota Wild defenseman Carson Soucy headed to the box for a delay of game penalty. The only problem was that he wasn’t the guy who cleared the puck.

Nonetheless, Soucy dutifully headed to the box.

As linesman Kyle Flemington dropped the puck to start the power play, the horn sounded to put a stop to the action.  Toronto was on the phone with some important news.

After a quick chat with league officials, referee Chris Rooney can be heard shouting to the Minnesota bench.

“Nineteen!  Nineteen!” yelled Rooney, identifying center Luke Kunin as the guilty party.

Out came Soucy and in went Kunin to serve two-minutes of hard time.

At least they got the right guy.

Referees for the game were Chris Rooney (#5) and Peter MacDougall (#38). Linesmen were Kyle Flemington (#55) and Ryan Galloway (#82).
