The QMJHL has suspended Shawinigan Cataractes defenseman Jordan Lepage for five games for elbowing Quebec Remparts forward Andrew Coxhead.

The incident took place during Monday’s game in Shawinigan. Lepage received a major penalty and game misconduct for checking to the head from referees Dominick Bédard and Guillaume Labonté.

From the QMJHL:

As he wanted to close the game at the entrance of his territory, the Cataractes player (#5 – Jordan Lepage) changed direction to skate forward and hit his opponent with his raised elbow, reaching the Remparts player (#20 – Andrew Coxhead) in the face.

The player performing a north-south hit must understand that he exposes himself and must ensure that he does it the right way, targeting the shoulders or the chest at all times.

Therefore, for the incident on Monday and considering that the player is a repeat offender, the QMJHL Department of Player Safety imposed a 5-game suspension to #5 Jordan Lepage of the Shawinigan Cataractes.
