Washington Capitals forward T.J. Oshie has been fined $5,000 for cross-checking Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Kris Letang. The offense came in the final minute of the second period of Thursday night’s game in Pittsburgh.

Letang hit Oshie along the boards. The two players battled, with Letang falling to the ice. With Letang down on all fours, Oshie delivered a crosscheck to the defenseman’s neck.

Oshie was given a minor penalty on the play for cross-checking by referee Tim Peel.

The $5,000 fine to Oshie is the maximum allowable under the NHL/NHLPA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
