Philadelphia’s Radko Gudas leveled New Jersey Devils winder Kyle Palmeri with a flying hit on Thursday night. While the blueliner was sent to the box for interference on the play, he won’t face any further supplemental discipline.
Gudas has a history with the NHL’s Department of Player Safety, having been suspended three times, as well as ejected from multiple games for dangerous hits. Gudas was suspended for ten games earlier this season for a two-handed slash to the neck on Winnipeg’s Mathieu Perreault
In this instance though, it appears Gudas wasn’t looking to make contact, but to avoid it. As he turned up ice, his view of Palmieri appears to be obstructed by Flyers winger Wayne Simmonds. Simmonds turned right. Palmieri moved left – right into Gudas’s path.
The league deemed the hit accidental.
Gudas was given a two minute minor for interference on the play by referee Tim Peel.
