Here’s a quick look and listen to the on ice sounds from Game 4 between the Boston Bruins and Ottawa Senators, including a great exchange between referee Kevin Pollock and Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara.

Pollock and Chara come together during a stoppage in play, discussing the action.

“Is that fair, Z?” asks Pollock

“Absolutely,” Chara replies.

“How’s it going, big man?”

“Good, how are you?”

“Good,” Pollock responds. “You’re looking —-ing good.”

“You too, bud,” offers Chara.

“You’ve got another five years in you,” Pollock tells the 40-year old defenseman, who has one more year left on his contract.

Later, Pollock explains a situation to a player on the Bruins’ bench

“It’s not a penalty; I’m not saying it is.  Let’s just not get into slashing, okay? I’ll work with you. That’s why I’m talking to you right now.”

Great to hear the officials letting players know what they will and won’t call. Communication is a huge part of officiating, and it’s something that the better officials – like Pollock – do well.
