Game 4 between the Boston Bruins and Ottawa Senators was a day at the beach for referee Brad Meier.

At least, it felt that way for a few moments when a beach ball unexpectedly landed on the ice in the Senators’ zone. Referee Brad Meier scooped up the ball, and, thinking quick on his skates, tucked it under the back of his jersey.

After the whistle sounded for icing, the ball was dealt with appropriately.

Boston’s David Pastrnak attempted to clear the puck over the glass. A second attempt by Ottawa’s Cody Ceci got the job done.

The ball lived out its final few moments with one last pass through the crowd before being corralled by the arena staff and sequestered below the stands.

No word on the beach ball’s current status, but we’re not optimistic.

Boston’s has some issues in the past with deflated balls.

Allegedly.
