Linesman Jonny Murray was scheduled to work Saturday afternoon’s Game Two between the Boston Bruins and Ottawa Senators, alongside linesman Steve Barton and referees Gord Dwyer and Marc Joannette.
Murray made it to the game. His equipment didn’t.
Rather than sporting his normal #95, Murray took the ice wearing a borrowed #70 jersey from Derek Nansen. Nansen reportedly lives in the Ottawa area. He’s missed the entire season with an ACL injury.
The unexpected number change led to some confusion for fans — and for the caption folks at Getty, who identified him as Derek Nansen in this photo:
Murray’s last appearance was April 12 in Pittsburgh, wearing his familiar #95.
Let’s hope he’s reunited with his gear in time for his next playoff game.
