NHL referee Garrett Rank dodged a bullet.
An Alex Ovechkin shot deflected off the outside of the net and veered straight toward the official, hitting him in the side of the face.
Fortunately, it wasn’t as bad as initially feared.
Rank got back to his feet and dusted himself off, smiling, no worse for the wear. After a quick chat with the Capitals’ medical trainer, the game resumed.
The guy might be a top amateur golfer, but he’s also a hockey referee. We all know that hockey players – and officials – can handle the occasional puck to the face.
