Referee Tom Kowal will take the ice for his 1,000th National Hockey League game tonight in Calgary as the Flames face off against the Nashville Predators. Kowal will be joined by referee Brad Meier and linesmen Lonnie Cameron and Tony Sericolo for this milestone event.
Kowal, 49, made his NHL debut on January 28, 2000 in Raleigh, North Carolina, working alongside referee Richard Trottier and Andy McElman on lines.
He hosted an officiating clinic and officiated the 2016 Kraft Hockeyville game in Lumby, just outside his hometown of Vernon, British Columbia. As part of the event, Kowal also ran an officiating clinc for local hockey officials.
He was also chosen to officiate the 2011 NHL All-Star Game in Raleigh with Kevin Pollock, Darren Gibbs, and Don Henderson.
