A KHL player has been suspended five games for taking out an official after a non-call.
Admiral Vladivostok’s Viktor Alexandrov was pulled down by Traktor defenseman Vladimir Denisov. When no call came from referee Evgeny Gamalei, Alexandrov opted to show his displeasure by bumping the official:
Gamalei went down, his arm went up, and Alexandrov was gone for the game.
The KHL Rulebook covers this in Rule 550, Abuse of Officials, Section (e):
Any player who:
1. Intentionally touches with hands or stick, holds or pushes or checks, with his stick or body, trips, slashes, strikes, hits the game official injuring him in any manner or spits at a game official, or intentionally throws or shoots the pack at a game official;
2. Makes a travesty of or interferes with or is detrimental to the conducting of the game;
3. While on the ice or anywhere in the rink before, during or after the game makes any obscene gesture to any official or any person;
4. Spits at any person on the ice or anywhere in the rink, shall be assessed:
Game Misconduct penalty
Admiral went on to lose the game 4-1. They’ve also lost Alexandrov for their next five.
