Referee Dean Morton was injured during Saturday’s game between the New York Rangers and Boston Bruins.

The veteran official was hit in the head with a puck late in the second period.  New York Rangers defenseman Kevin Klein attempted to fire the puck around the glass when a forechecking Bruins player deflected the puck, hitting Morton in the head.

The 16-year NHL referee was helped off the ice. He was unable to return to the game.

The remainder of the game was officiated by a three-man crew of referee Frederick L’Ecuyer and linesmen Matt MacPherson and Devin Berg.
