Philadelphia Flyers winger Chris VandeVelde has been suspended two games for elbowing Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews.
The hit took place with 30 seconds remaining in the first period of Wednesday’s game in Chicago. VandeVelde was given two minutes for elbowing from referees Jean Hebert and Tom Chmielewski.
VandeVelde and Toews are former college teammates. The two played on the same line at the University of North Dakota, under current Flyers head coach Dave Hakstol.
