Teemu Aalto plays defense for Tappara of the Finnish League. The team name translates roughly to ‘battle axe’, which accurately describes what one on-ice official was facing in today’s game.

A hit from Aalto on Jiri Vestola of the Tampere Ilves (Lynx) had a dangerous result. Not only was Vestola injured on the play, but the linesman nearly was as well.  As he flipped in the air, Veistola’s skate hit linesman Pasi Nieminen in the chest, knocking him to the ice.

While Veistola was helped off the ice, Nieminen appeared to avoid injury on what was a very dangerous play.
