Referee Dan O’Halloran not only handed out a tripping penalty, but, thanks to a broken stick, gave a prop-assisted demonstration of the call.
It all started when Predators defenseman Shea Weber broke his stick shortly after the opening faceoff of the third period.
Part of the broken stick remained on the ice.
At some point, referee Dan O’Halloran picked up the stick prior to calling Nashville’s Ryan Ellis for tripping.
O’Halloran booked the call – stick in hand – and went to make the official announcement.
