Kevin Westgarth went to Princeton.  Despite his Ivy league education, he made a very stupid play when he boarded Sens’ defenseman Mark Borowiecki.

Now he can put those brain cells back to work as he ruminates over his actions while he gets a league-mandated two games in the pressbox. From the NHL:

Carolina Hurricanes forward Kevin Westgarth has been suspended for two games, without pay, for boarding Ottawa Senators defenseman Mark Borowiecki during NHL Game No. 354 in Raleigh on Sunday, Nov. 24, the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced today.

The incident occurred at 7:55 of the first period. Westgarth received a minor penalty for boarding.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and, based on his average annual salary, Westgarth will forfeit $7,435.90. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
