Brendan O’Donnell was wrongly convicted.
The North Dakota winger was given two minutes for slashing Terriers forward Tommy Kelley late in the third period of a 3-3 game against Boston University, breaking his stick.
Upon further review, the victim was really the offender. Kelley actually slashed O’Donnell, breaking his own stick in the process.
What did referee Kevin Shea say to O’Donnell on the way to the penalty box? “He told me to get in the box.”
Thankfully, the blown call didn’t cost North Dakota the game. It ended in a 3-3 tie.
