Official Contest Rules
The “Picking the Refs: NHL Playoff Referee Pick ‘Em” is sponsored by ScoutingTheRefs.com (“Sponsor”). This contest is governed by these official rules (“Official Rules”). By participating in the contest, each entrant agrees to abide by these Official Rules, including all eligibility requirements, and understands that the results of the contest, as determined by Sponsor and its agents, are final in all respects. The contest is subject to all federal, state and local laws and regulations and is void where prohibited by law.
This contest is not sponsored, approved, sanctioned, or affiliated with the National Hockey League (NHL) or the NHL Officials Association (NHLOA).
ELIGIBILITY The Contest is open to legal residents of their respective countries where not prohibited by law, who are eighteen (18) years of age or older at the time of entry who have Internet access and a valid e-mail account prior to the beginning of the Contest Period. Sponsor has the right to verify the eligibility of each entrant.
CONTEST PERIOD The Contest begins at April 17, 2014 at 12:01am EDT and ends on or before May 1, 2014 at 11:59pm EDT (“Contest Period”). All entries (submissions) must be received on or before the time stated during that submission period. Sponsor reserves the right to extend or shorten the contest at their sole discretion. Submissions must be received within 6 hours of the completion of the last game of the first round of the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
HOW TO ENTER You can enter the Contest through the Sponsor Website, scoutingtherefs.com. Entrants must fill out all required fields on the entry form and participate in the contest. After submitting the required information on the entry form, the entrant will receive one (1) entry into the drawing. One entry per person per email address.Only the first submission for each email address will be considered a valid entry. Subsequent submissions for the same email address will be disregarded.
Entries with more selections than specified will be disqualified. Number of referees selected are as follows:
- Second Round – 12
- Conference Finals – 8
- Cup Final – 4
WINNER SELECTION All eligible entries received during the Submission Period will gathered into a database at the end of the Submission Period.
Winners will be determined based on total points accrued by selections made on entry form through the Cup Final.
- Referees correctly selected to work the Second Round of the Playoffs will earn 5 points each.
- Referees correctly selected to work the Conference Finals will earn 10 points each.
- Referees correctly selected to work the Stanley Cup Final will earn 15 points each.
- In the event of a tie, tiebreaker question will be used. Entrant with closest guess as to the total number of penalty minutes handed out in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final will be the winner. If multiple entrants have the same tiebreaker answer, winner will be determined via random drawing among those entrants with matching winning tiebreaker answers. The winners will be announced within 48 hours of the completion of Game 1 of the 2014 Stanley Cup Finals.
Announcement and instructions for prize will be sent to the e-mail address supplied on the potential prize winner’s entry form. Each entrant is responsible for monitoring his/her e-mail account for prize notification and receipt or other communications related to this contest. If a potential prize winner cannot be reached by Administrator (or Sponsor) within fifteen (15) days, using the contact information provided at the time of entry, or if the prize is returned as undeliverable, that potential prize winner shall forfeit the prize. Upon the request of the Sponsor, the potential winner may be required to return an Affidavit of Eligibility, Release and Prize Acceptance Form and IRS W-9 form. If a potential winner fails to comply with these official rules, that potential winner will be disqualified.

Incidental expenses and all other costs and expenses which are not specifically listed as part of a prize in these Official Rules and which may be associated with the award, acceptance, receipt and use of all or any portion of the awarded prize are solely the responsibility of the respective prize winner.
ALL FEDERAL, STATE AND LOCAL TAXES ASSOCIATED WITH THE RECEIPT OR USE OF ANY PRIZE IS SOLELY THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE WINNER.
ADDITIONAL LIMITATIONS Prize is non-transferable. No substitution or cash equivalent of prizes is permitted. Sponsor reserves the right to terminate, suspend or amend the Contest, without notice, and for any reason, including, without limitation, if Sponsor determines that the Contest cannot be conducted as planned or should a virus, bug, tampering or unauthorized intervention, technical failure or other cause beyond Sponsor’s control corrupt the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper play of the Contest. In the event any tampering or unauthorized intervention may have occurred, Sponsor reserves the right to void suspect entries at issue.
