NHL Officials Host Hockeyville USA Ref Clinic in Marquette

NHL officials Brian Pochmara, Bryan Pancich, Steve Kozari, and Scott Driscoll hosted an officiating clinic in Marquette, Michigan, as part of this year’s Hockeyville USA celebration.   The sessions covered faceoffs, skating, positioning and other ‘tricks of the trade’. Flyers’ Gudas Avoids Suspension for Vesey Hit

Radko Gudas has done it again.  The NHL’s ersatz Teflon Don once again avoids suspension for a questionable hit. Gudas’s latest head-hunting expedition came in Monday’s preseason game against the New York Rangers.  Forward Jimmy Vesey brought the puck into the zone along the boards.  As Gudas lined him up for a check along the class, Vesey pivoted. Gudas continued on course, driving Vesey’s head into the glass. Though he was shaken up on the play, Vesey returned to the game, eventually scoring the game-tying goal late in the third period. Hawks’ Hjalmarsson Suspended For Season Opener

Niklas Hjalmarsson’s preseason has come to an early end.  The Chicago Blackhawks defenseman will miss the remainder of his team’s preseason games as well as the opening game of the 2016-17 regular season. Hjalmarsson was suspended for charging St. Louis Blues winger Ty Rattie.  The hit came with just 1:05 remaining, with the Blackhawks leading 3-0.  Hjalmarsson was given a match penalty for an illegal hit to the head by referees Tim Peel and Evgeny Romasko.   The NHL Department of Player Safety explained the decision, which also cost Hjalmarsson $22,777.78 in lost salary. “Approaching with speed, Hjalmarsson launches up...

 The Director of Player Safety of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, Raymond Bolduc, suspended Alexis Pépin of the Val-d’Or Foreurs for 3 games.
