New Names, New Numbers for NHL Officials

The NHL has released the officiating roster for the 2016-17 season.  In case you missed it, we’ve reported on the new hirings.  Here’s a summary of the changes in stripes for the upcoming season: Promotions 2 – Jon McIsaac 7 – Garrett Rank 30 – Kendrick Nicholson 52 – Shandor Alphonso* 64 – Brandon Gawryletz* 87 – Devin Berg* *No number change It will be somewhat strange to see the ol’ #7, last worn by Hall-of-Famer Bill McCreary, back out there on the ice this season.   Read more on this year’s promotions.    New Hires 41 – Cameron Voss...

NHL Adds Nagy, South, and Voss to Officiating Roster

The NHL has added three more zebras to its officiating ranks.  Referees Furman South and Cameron Voss, along with linesman Kory Nagy, will join the league this fall, splitting time between the AHL and NHL.  They join fellow new referees Pierre Lambert, Peter MacDougall, Chris Schlenker, and linesman Ryan Daisy. Referee Furman South South, 28, from Pittsburgh, played youth and high school hockey before moving up to Junior A with the EJHL’s Bay State Breakers. Referee Mark Lemelin Heads to Austria

Referee Mark Lemelin is heading to Europe.  The Albuquerque native, recently released by the NHL, will be plying his trade in the EBEL (Erste Bank Eishockey Liga) – or Austrian Hockey League – for 2016-17.   The Austria-based league is made of of 12 teams from four countries: Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, and Slovenia.
