Letang’s Goal Waved Off, Confirmed, Eventually Overturned

When is a goal not a goal… and still not a goal… and then later IS a goal? WCHA Referee Butch Mousseaux Seriously Injured During Warm-Ups

Referee Butch Mousseaux suffered a serious head injury prior to Friday’s WCHA Final Five semifinal game between Michigan Tech and Ferris State.   The veteran official caught an edge and fell to the ice during warm-ups, hitting his head on the ice.  Mousseaux was reportedly not wearing a helmet at the time of his injury.  The Western Collegiate Hockey Association released a statement regarding Mousseaux’s injury: Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) referee Oliver “Butch” Mousseaux sustained head injuries stemming from a fall to the ice during warm-ups prior to the second WCHA Final Five semifinal game of Friday, March 18...

EIHL Suspends Peacock 2 Games for Abuse of Official

Abuse of officials situations aren’t exclusive to North America. Over in the UK’s Elite League (EIHL), one player took out his frustrations on a referee and will miss two games as a result. Belfast Giants forward Craig Peacock has been suspended for two games for abuse of officials.  Peacock was given a game misconduct after coming off the bench and hitting referee Stefan Hogarth with his stick.   After further review, the EIHL’s Department of Player Safety has upgraded the call to a match penalty, which includes an automatic one-game suspension.  The league has also added a second game to...
