Rangers’ Miller Given Match Penalty for Tape on Hands

The Hanson Brothers may have made putting on the foil famous. So much so that it’s something the NHL expressly prohibits when it causes injury. The NHL’s ban applies to tape or any material on the hand during a fight, as New York Rangers forward J.T. Miller recently found out. Miller was given a match penalty for fighting and causing injury with tape on the hands, per 46.15: 46.15 Match Penalty – Any player wearing tape or any other material on his hands (below the wrist) who cuts or injures an opponent during an altercation will receive a match penalty in...

Coyotes’ Domingue Calls Out Officials After Loss

Arizona Coyotes goaltender Louis Domingue was not happy with the officials after a 3-2 loss to the league-leading Washington Capitals.  He was particularly upset after what he thought was a slow whistle with the puck covered.  “It’s another weird call by the refs that, to me, cost us the game,” Domingue said after the game. “I’m expecting that they treat every guy the same way, and I felt like because I don’t have many games in this league I’m being treated differently [than other goaltenders.]  I think that if Holtby would have covered the puck this way, they would have...

Player Arrested On Ice for Spitting In Linesman’s Face

At a junior game in Quebec, one player learned just how seriously they take abuse of officials. Olivier Marcotte, a player with Sherbrooke’s Junior AA Hockey-Experts, found himself face down on the ice in handcuffs after spitting in a linesman’s face.  With less than five minutes remaining, Marcotte was ejected from the game.  He argued with the official before spitting in the linesman’s face and attempting to attack him. Marcotte was restrained by the officials before being taken off the ice in handcuffs. He was released from police custody soon after, once “everyone had calmed down,” according to a police spokesperson. No charges...
