Leafs’ Komarov Suspended 3 Games for Hit on Rangers’ McDonagh

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Leo Komarov has been suspended three games by the NHL’s Department of Player Safety for his hit to the head of New York Rangers captain Ryan McDonagh.  The play happened late in the first period of Thursday night’s game. Komarov was given a match penalty for an Illegal Check to the Head (Rule 48) by referees Chris Rooney and Eric Furlatt.  McDonagh did not return to the game.       Rangers defenseman Marc Staal called it “a brutal, blindside hit to the head.”  He added, “It’s something we’ve seen twice now, a dirty hit. Linesman Steve Miller Hit By Puck Twice During Game

He went from Phoenix, Arizona, all the way to Tacoma, Philadelphia, Atlanta, L.A… but he still couldn’t avoid the puck last night in Brooklyn.  Linesman Steve Miller found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time twice last night, getting hit by pucks in two separate incidents. The first was a clearing attempt from Isles defenseman Brian Strait that caught Miller up high.  Later in the game,  Miller took a shot off the leg.  He toughed it out, staying on the ice the whole time.  The veteran linesman, working career game 1,024, never missed a shift.  Of course, Miller can’t...

Winnipeg Jets Coach Paul Maurice Ejected From Game

Winnipeg Jets head coach Paul Maurice was not happy with the calls – or lack thereof – in tonight’s game, and he let referee Francois St. Laurent know about it.    St. Laurent showed him to the door.  Maurice’s frustrations began after a pair of unpenalized hits by Tampa’s Anton Stralman.  Stralman delivered what looked like a knee-on-knee hit to Winnipeg Jets forward Nikolaj Ehlers. Later in the second period, the Lightning defensmen caught Winnipeg’s Bryan Little with an elbow to the head.  (For what it’s worth, Little was in a vulnerable position and off-balance. Little’s body position, specifically...
