Minnesota Wild defenseman Ryan Suter has been suspended two games for elbowing Pittsburgh Penguins forward Steve Downie. No penalty was called on the play, which happened at 4:22 of the second period. Referees for the games were Kevin Pollock and Tim Peel. The Anaheim Ducks had an interesting sequence in Wednesday night’s game. With the Ducks on the power play, forward Kyle Palmieri scored a goal that went in and out of the net so fast it was undetected. You never forget your first. NHL referee Garrett Rank will be suiting up for his first National Hockey League game on Thursday, January 15.   Rank will be wearing number 48 as he takes the ice for Minnesota Wild vs. Buffalo Sabres.  Joining him on the ice will be veteran referee Paul Devorski along with linesmen Brad Kovachik and Brian Murphy. Rank, who signed an NHL contract over the summer, has been working this season in the AHL. The native of Elmira, Ontario, has been officiating for 13 years. Referee Kelly Sutherland has had a terrific career. The Department of Player Safety will be making a long distance call to Minnesota on Wednesday afternoon. It seems they’d like to speak with Wild defenseman Ryan Suter about his blatant elbow on Pittsburgh Penguins forward Steve Downie.
