Russian Girl Breaks Hockey Stick Over Opponent’s Head

A scary moment happened during the U16 World Selects Tournament in Budapest, Hungary. Little Caesars AAA player Hannah Bates, playing for the West Coast Selects Team, was hit over the head by an opposing player.  With Spartak Moscow trailing 2-1, 16-year-old Svetlana Starovoytova took out her frustrations on her opponent’s head. Staroyotova had already been hit with a boarding minor less than five minutes into the first period.  She finished the game — a game that was cut short for her after her ejection — with 16 minutes of penalties.  She was suspended for the remainder of the tournament.
