IIHF: New Rules Approved for 2014-2018

The IIHF has some rule changes coming this fall. Every four years, the International Ice Hockey Federation’s 64-member national associations come together to review rule change proposals.  Many were on the table — the IIHF received 86 proposals for changes to the rulebook.  Some passed, others were rejected.  Here’s a look at what will be changing: New Rules for 2014-15 Blue lines will be moved from 70′ (21.33m) to 75′ (22.86m) from the ends of the rink.  In addition to increasing the size of the offensive zone, this will standardize it for all IIHF Championships.  The new distance also matches the...

Rangers’ John Moore Suspended 2 Games

Moore was given a match penalty for intent to injure by referees Steve Kozari and Brad Watson. “John is definitely not the type of player to try to hurt someone, but it was a late hit and it was the right call on the ice,” said Rangers coach Alain...

Rangers Moore and Dorsett Face Suspensions After Game 5

Wednesday night’s Game 5 against the Montreal Canadiens at the Bell Center was an all-around bad night for the New York Rangers. The Blueshirts saw Henrik Lundqvist pulled from the net and their game-tying comeback thwarted by Montreal’s go-ahead goal scored just one minute after New York evened the score.  Montreal’s 7-4 victory staved off elimination, cutting the Rangers’ lead in Eastern Conference Finals to 3-2.  The seven goals allowed were the most by the Rangers since the third game of the regular season, when they were blown out 9-2 in San Jose. Now the Rangers may find themselves going...
