Linesman Ray Scapinello may have retired from the NHL in 2004, but that doesn’t mean he’s left the game.

For the past 12 summers, Scampy has hosted a charity road hockey tournament in Guelph, the town where he played senior hockey and where he got his start in officiating.

From raysroadhockey.ca:

Our tournament is a children’s not-for-profit sporting event that is held each spring in Guelph, Ontario.  Our 12th annual tournament will be held on April 30, 2016 at the University of Guelph and we are looking forward to another great year of road hockey.

Our event is open to children from 9 to 14 years of age (birth years 2002 to 2007), with three divisions for boys/mixed teams and two divisions for girls teams.  We also have a special needs division that is run in conjunction with Guelph Giants Hockey Club. Last year, we had 96 teams vying to have their team name engraved on the Scampy Cup. We also had The Stanley Cup on hand from the Hockey Hall of Fame, creating a great photo op for everyone in attendance.

Proceeds from our tournament are donated to benefit youth in the Guelph area through cooperation with the Guelph Community Foundation.  We have a great group of participants, sponsors, and volunteers and I would like to thank all of them for their continued support.
