This is about as close as it gets.

Nashville’s Ryan Johansen was a fraction of a second away from giving his team a 3-0 lead against the San Jose Sharks. ┬áHis shot eluded San Jose goaltender James Reimer, but he didn’t beat the clock.

The clock appeared to hit zero just as the puck crossed the line.

Here’s referee TJ Luxmore with the call.

While it seemed like just an insurance marker at the time, that near-goal proved pivotal. The Sharks rallied to tie the game at two apiece midway through the third period.  San Jose went on to win 3-2 in a shootout.
