The NHL has fined three players in the latest round of diving citations.
Arizona’s Martin Hanzal, Toronto’s Nazem Kadri (twice!), and Edmonton’s Nail Yakupov are the latest to be hit with fines for embellishment.
Hanzal was warned after a December 6 game against the Carolina Hurricanes. His second dive – which resulted in the $2,000 fine – came midway through the first period of the Coyotes’ March 12 game against the Edmonton Oilers. He drew a minor penalty for hooking to Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl and was assessed a minor penalty for embellishment on the play.
Kadri has been issued two fines, based on two separate incidents.
He received a warning after a game against the New Jersey Devils on February 4. He was also caught during a March 12 game against the Ottawa Senators, which resulted in a $2,000 fine. Kadri was once more spotted embellishing during a game against the Calgary Flames on March 21. As this was his third citation, Kadri was fined an additional $3,000.
NHL Hockey Operations caught Yakupov diving on October 13 in a game against the Dallas Stars and gave him a warning. His second infraction came on March 12 against the Arizona Coyotes. Late in the third period, Yakupov drew an interference penalty and was called for embellishment on the play, which resulted in the $2,000 fine.
