San Jose Sharks forward Logan Couture has been fined $5,000 for slew-footing Detroit Red Wings defenseman Brendan Smith. The incident happened with 3:57 left in the third period on Thursday, February 26, when the two teams met in San Jose.
Couture was given a minor penalty for tripping on the play. Smith was also penalized, going off for hooking. Referees for the game were Chris Rooney and Kyle Rehman. Linesmen were Steve Miller and Trent Knorr.
Couture has no disciplinary history with the league.
The $5,000 fine is the maximum permitted under the CBA. The money will go to the NHL Players’ Emergency Fund.
