Despite the NHL’s holiday break, it’s a busy day of hockey. The World Juniors are getting underway and the Spengler Cup has already kicked off.

If you’re not familiar, the Spengler Cup is an annual invitational hockey tournament held in Davos, Switzerland. This year’s even features host team HC Davos, defending champion Geneve-Servette HC, Team Canada, and three KHL teams: Medvescak Zagreb, HC Salavat Yulaev Ufa, and Jokerit Helsinki.

The referees and linesmen for the 88th Spengler Cup are:

Danny Kurmann (SUI) Stefan Eichmann (SUI) Marc Wiegand (SUI) Kendrick Nicholson (CAN) *NHL Daniel Piechaczek (DEL)

Franco Espinoza (SUI) Roman Kaderli (SUI) Andreas Kohler (SUI) Nicolas Fluri (SUI) Michael Tscherrig (SUI)

Veteran referee Danny Kurmann leads the officiating crew with eight previous Spengler Cup appearances.  Stefan Eichmann makes his first appearance as a referee; he’s worked the lines for two previous tournaments. Swiss referee Marc Wiegand and newly-hired NHL referee Kendrick Nicholson are making their Spengler Cup debuts.  Referee Daniel Piechaczek is an international veteran, having working U18s, World Juniors, and, most recently, the 2014 Sochi Olympics.

The on-ice crew will be managed by Chief Referee Brent Reiber and Head of Referee Management Beat Kaufmann.
