Referee Chris Rooney appeared to suffer a hand injury that saw him leave the ice late in the second period of Bruins vs. Maple Leafs. He was hit by a puck cleared around the glass deep in the Boston zone.
Rooney dropped to the ice immediately. He got back on his skates and headed to the Bruins’ bench with the puck still in play.
Rooney was tended to on the bench by the Bruins trainer before heading to the locker room, leaving referee Brian Pochmara to finish the period as the lone referee on the ice.
Much like hockey players, though, hockey referees are tough. Rooney was back on the ice for the start of the third period. He didn’t, however, escape injury.

No word on whether he’ll miss any time going forward.
